About
This site is an ongoing list of topics that interest me, my personal thoughts, and my possibly insipid tinkering. In general, if I link my friends to it, discuss it with surrounding people, or laugh at it, whatever it is will be posted here. I will show you Internet content that I let waste my time so that you may waste yours. I hope you enjoy whatever you find here.
Under it all, CJCsuhta is an experiment in web development, design, and social engineering. You are all Guinea pigs, mwah ha.
About Me
I am Corey Csuhta. At the very core, I am a technophile. My love for the new, the modern, and the shiny inspire me to churn away my hours working on one technological project after another. I have dabbled in such things as LAMP development, Linux distributions, eAthena, phone phreaking, game design, TI-BASIC, and comic book authoring.
I am a student of Computer Science at Old Dominion University. I hope to one day pursue a career administrating a large web application, my own start up, or any grey area in-between that challenges me to use my love of UNIX standards, design, and problem solving.
About this Site
CJCsuhta is hosted by Dreamhost on a shared web server running Debian GNU Linux and serving web pages with Apache. It is powered by the open-source version of Movable Type, a content management system written mostly in Perl, that stores records in a MySQL database. Stats are tracked by Mint. Additional site magic is performed by PHP.
The logo is a combination of Zurich Condensed BT (not free, but comes with CorelDraw) and MicroTym (free).
Software Toolbag
This site was written and produced on an Apple computer running Mac OS X. I have abandoned the Microsoft Windows platform for any development tasks.
My toolset for writing software and designing web interfaces is constantly changing. As of this writing, this is what I use and recommend:
- Textmate, a text editor with UNIX underpinnings. If you want Textmate on Windows, see the e Text-editor.
- CSSEdit, probably the fastest way to develop your CSS on a Mac.
- Adobe Fireworks CS3, web mockup and graphics design software.
- Transmit, a S/FTP client.
- CocoaMySQL, a powerful Mac GUI for MySQL databases. Free.
- CleanArchiver, creates compressed packages without .DS_Store files or other Mac OS X junk. Free.
In addition, my daily computer life is made possible by:
- Quicksilver, so much more than just a Mac OS X application launcher. Free.
- Apple Mail, Apple’s email client. Included with Mac OS X.
- Adium, a universal instant messaging client. Free.
- iTunes, Apple’s music jukebox. Free.
- NetNewsWire, an RSS reader. Free.
- Safari, Apple’s web browser. Free.
- Transmission, a BitTorrent client for Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, and Solaris. Free.
- The Unarchiver, a replacement for the default Mac OS X decompressor. Free.
